Comfort Maximized From New Plants to Furnace Service

December 11, 2015

With cooler temperatures settled in and days that seem like there’s very little any daylight, it can be tough to always feel like your home is a comfortable place to be. That extends far beyond doing annual furnace service too, because there are a variety of things you can do to help make your home feel cozy even when your furnace is doing its.

Here are a few that we find particularly helpful here in Brookfield:

  • Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, may mean quite a bit of air is leaving your home. Not to mention that the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is going outside as well. There are a host of options that can help you shut those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are relatively easy fixes for homeowners to take care of themselves.
  • Switch your furnace filter. This is one of the most critical things you can do to not only increase your furnace’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your bills. Plus, you don’t need to have your furnace service technician to do it, you can handle it yourself. It’s usually recommended to swap your furnace filter every one or two months to get the most out of its performance, but some can last even longer.
  • Buy plants. Indoor plants can leave you with a host of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually attractive, they may likely better your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a variety of toxins that are emitted from various common household cleaners, paints and other products.
  • Furnace service. This should be something that you’re already taking care of, but it never hurts to receive a reminder. Having furnace service done annually helps make sure that your furnace is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be addressed so your comfort isn’t compromised.

It doesn’t have to feel overwhelming to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 203-357-5913 to hear about any of these suggestions or find out more about furnaces, our furnace service or anything else comfort related.
